"Writing anything is treason of sorts. Even the cold recitation of facts - which is hardly what I've been up to - is never the thing itself. And the events described are somehow diminished in the telling." - Anthony Bourdain.
I can't believe the above is true. If these stories, and trust me, there are countless of them in this small book, have been diminished in the telling, I am so jealous of anyone that has played even a small part in them. With the rebel bravado of a New York City punk band and the charm of an experienced best friend, Anthony makes this book evaporate as you are still craving more.
I of course have to say I had flashbacks from my restaurant days. I only served two years, but I am still suffering from PTSD, I can only imagine bein inmersed in the life for more than 25. I of course thought about Michelle, JD, Gerardo, Tony, Jimmy, Mercedes, and others who came and went those months that were so hard and went so slow while living them but now seem just minutes. I don't know how but I remember it all fondly. I wish I knew then, and I guess thats life.
The Audible version has the added benefit of Anthony narrating himself, an absolute most. One of the best books I have ever read, and the only one I have seriously considered re-reading immediately after finishing. I think I will come back to it though, like a favorite meal you don't want to eat too much of. Read now...
